  1. What does engine oil do?
    1. Lubricates
    2. Cleans
    3. Cools
    4. Protects
    5. Seals

  2. What is the difference between a conventional product, and a synthetic product? How do I know which is right for my application
    • Both are made from crude oil extracted from the ground, but…
    • Synthetics are made using a chemical reaction to create a uniform molecular structure, which helps reduce friction. This offers more protection and better overall performance compared to a conventional product.
    • Conventional oil retains more impurities, and doesn’t provide a uniform level of protection and performance. You could potentially end up with a product containing unstable hydrocarbons, sulphur, and wax content.
    • Everyone can benefit from a synthetic product. Older vehicles may be more suited to the semi-synthetic Super 2000 due to high mileage performance.

  3. Why do I need extreme heat and cold protection?
  4. Heat protection is important due to the internal temperature of an engine which can get up to 360oC. Cold engines take more time to pump oil, the quicker the oil circulates, the less wear there is on engine parts.

  5. How long should I go between oil changes?
  6. Always follow the oil and filter change recommendations from your owner’s manual. Driving conditions can affect the oil change interval your vehicle may require.

  7. How long do I have after the “check oil” light comes on?
  8. Similarly to the “gas light,” the oil light is alerting you to the fact that an oil change is needed. It is not immediate, but you should have an oil change at your earliest convenience.

  9. Where can I get my oil changed? How much is it?
    • You can get your oil changed at all Mr. Lube locations throughout Alberta OR any of our Mobil™ branded lube express stations – Mobil 1™ Lube Express. Many automotive repair/service shops do oil changes as well, don’t forget to ask them to put Mobil™ in your vehicle!
    • The price of an oil change will vary depending on where it is done, and whether or not you chose to have synthetic or conventional oil put in your vehicle.

  10. Why do I have to change my oil?
  11. As engine oil does its’ job, it breaks down and wears out over time. Oil should be changed at recommended intervals to avoid damage to critical engine parts.

  12. Does opened/unopened oil have an expiry date?
  13. Unopened oil should be kept no longer than 3 years, or if the API spec is out of date. Opened oil should be used as soon as possible to avoid any possible contaminants or water content permeating the product.

Mobil™ Lubricants

  1. What is the difference between Mobil 1™ and Mobil Super™ 3000?
  2. Mobil 1™ is an advanced synthetic which provides protection beyond all other Mobil™ branded motor oils. Mobil Super™ 3000 is a synthetic motor oil designed to meet most auto manufacturer’s synthetic warrantee requirements.

  3. What do the viscosity codes mean? (ie. 5W-20)
    • “W” means it is a winter grade
    • The lower the first number, the better flowing it is in cold temperatures
    • The higher the second number, the thicker the oil is in high temperatures

  4. Is it true that Mobil™ can improve my gas mileage?
  5. Mobil 1™ is formulated to help conserve energy in your engine, which provides an opportunity for more efficient fuel consumption.

  6. Mobil™ isn’t the recommended brand from my manufacturer, can I still use your product?
  7. Yes, Mobil™ lubricants meet all SAE specifications.

  8. What is Mobil Delvac™? How is it different from Mobil Super™ or Mobil 1™?
  9. Mobil Delvac™ is formulated with the same level of research and technology, but is an engine oil designed to meet the needs of heavy duty diesel trucks.

  10. What are the advantages to buying Mobil™ branded oil?
    1. Keeps engines running like new
    2. Protection in varying temperatures
    3. Reduces oil consumption
    4. Improved gas mileage
    5. Cleans up virtually all sludge and combats new deposits

  11. Will using synthetic motor oil void my vehicles warranty?
  12. No, Mobil 1™ is recommended by more auto manufacturers than any other brand in the world.

  1. What is a good multipurpose grease for the following application:
  2. A great multipurpose grease designed to perform a variety of applications is Mobil™ grease XHP 222. It is a dark blue, lithium complex grease that can be utilized in construction, industrial, marine, automotive, and mining applications. It also suits the needs of most moderate operating conditions.

  3. Is grease waterproof?
  4. Not all grease is waterproof – make sure to look for water resistance features in the Product Data Sheet

  5. How often do I have to re-apply grease?
  6. Re-application intervals are dependent on a variety of environmental factors such as the machinery, OEM requirements, usage, etc. For more information on application of your Mobil™ grease, call our Tech Line at 1-800-387-3690.

  7. What makes grease sticky? Is a stickier grease considered “better”?
  8. The stickiness of a grease comes from polymers called “tackifiers.” A sticky grease is desirable in applications where the grease can fling or wash off. You do not want to use a sticky grease in element bearings as it can cause viscous drag and generate unwanted heat.

  9. What causes viscous drag?
  10. Viscous drag is caused by a lubricant that is either to heavy or too “tacky” for the application.

  11. Can you use a grease containing Moly in all applications?
  12. No, grease containing Moly is best suited for slower and heavily loaded applications including pins and bushings – it should not be used in high speed conditions or as lubrication for ball bearings.

  13. Does an EP 2 lubricate better than an EP 1?
  14. No, the difference in grade effects “flow-ability” and speed of liquefaction.

  15. What is the difference between grease and lubricant?
    • Lubricant requires ancillary support from the equipment to deliver the oil where it needs to go.
    • Grease is designed to remain where it is applied – it does its job once stress is applied to the equipment and an oil film is needed. Stress could be any heat, pressure, movement, etc.

  16. Does grease have an “expiry date”?
  17. Grease typically expires after about 5 years.

  18. Can I use two different types of grease on the same piece of equipment?
  19. No, not all greases are compatible due to differing base stocks and additives used. Always refer to the Grease Compatibility Chart before mixing any greases.

  20. Do you sell grease guns?
  21. No, we do not sell any application equipment but we would be happy to refer you to someone who does! Please contact your local Blue Water Group Branch to find out more.

  1. Do your products come with a warranty?
  2. All Mobil™ lubricants are backed by Imperial Oil’s Ultimate Lubrication Warranty, which covers the replacement or repair of any piece of damaged equipment due to the failure of the lubricant.

  3. Do you deliver?
    • Yes, we will deliver for free if your order exceeds 200L of packaged lubricants, otherwise there is a $35 freight charge.
    • We require a minimum order of 400L for fuel delivery.

  4. How can I pay?
  5. Can I return product?
    • If the product is defective, we will be happy to take it back for you free of charge and provide necessary replacement product.
    • If you are returning the product because you no longer need it, please do so within 30 days and we will take it back with a restocking fee.

  6. Do you sell equipment or accessories?
  7. No, but we would be happy to refer you to someone who does! Please contact your local Blue Water Group branch to find out more.
